Dear Ms. Katherine Smith,

This summer I studied Jazz at Birch Creek Music Center. Thank you so much for helping me financially to enjoy this wonderful music experience.
Your gift helped me to have a life changing experience.  I worked with a huge professional faculty that provided much inspiration and motivation to pursue a career in music...
I appreciate your generosity in providing financial support for musicians.

Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Smith,

I was a recipient of The Wright Foundation Scholarship and a student this summer at Birch Creek Music Performance Center... I am writing to express my appreciation for your gracious financial support of the Center.
Because of your generosity and value of the Arts' scholarships, other students and myself were able to be a part of the unique musical experience offered at Birch Creek.
Thank you for helping to make a difference in my life!

Sincerely yours,
Christopher R. McBride
Birch Creek Music Center

Dear Wright Foundation,

I would like to express my deep appreciation for the scholarship I received to attend Birch Creek this summer. I will be attending the percussion session this July and am really looking forward to it.

Sincerely,
Jeff Rhodes

Dear Ms. Smith,

Thank you for your donation(s) to Birch Creek Music Center. I was a harp student there for the symphony session June 17 to 29 and received a scholarship from the Wright Foundation to attend. Your donation helped make Birch Creek a much more affordable experience but at the same time an unparalleled growing experience, both musically and personally.

Thank you for making all this possible for me. I hope you will continue to give to Birch Creek in the future, enabling other music students to attend and realize their potential too.

I hope there is never a summer when I cannot go to Birch Creek and I plan to return as a teaching assistant indefinitely. Though it only lasts two weeks, the friendships formed and music learned lasts a lifetime.

Sincerely and
thankfully yours,
Colleen Potter
Birch Creek Music Center

Dear Katherine,

In the summer of 2002, I attended Jazz Session I at Birch Creek Music Performance Center. I would like to thank you for giving scholarships to students like me, and for all your support of Birch Creek.

Because of your help, Birch Creek is doing well this year. I would like to thank you again for the scholarship. I appreciate it, and I know that the people who run Birch Creek also appreciate your generosity. With your help, I was able to have a great time doing what I love - playing music.

Sincerely,
Terry Bartolotta
Birch Creek Music Center

Dear Ms Smith,

It was my privilege to receive the Wright Foundation for the Arts scholarship and I want to thank you for making it possible for me to go to Birch Creek this summer. I just returned from a great two weeks. I learned so much and really gained a lot from the faculty there. I was even invited, along with another student, to play in some faculty band pieces. I was also able to talk to the faculty and teaching assistants about majoring in music in college. I want to major in music performance and education and will begin to apply to colleges soon.

Thank you for offering these scholarships so students like me have a chance to pursue

Sincerely,
Benjamin Runkel
Birch Creek Music Center

Dear Ms. Smith,

My name is Meggie Aube and I'm from Palmer, Alaska. I would like to thank you immensely for your generous support. Without your donation, I may not have been able to attend Birch Creek and have such a wonderful experience.

There really are no words to express how grateful I am of your support. Sometimes it seems that no one is willing to support the arts, and then you find out about a wonderful organization like yours. The donation your foundation makes to Birch Creek students is inspiring and gives young musicians like me a head start into a career as a musician.

Thank you again for the wonderful gift of two un-forgettable weeks that definitely changed my life.

Sincerely,
Maggie Aube
Birch Creek Music Center

Ms. Smith,

Thank you for supporting Birch Creek. The music and teaching that goes on inside the campus at Birch Creek is like no other camp I've seen. For two weeks, you work. Professional musicians tutor you. You practice. You learn to work in small ensembles. You meet in large ensemble and create three unique performances at the end of each week.

Where else do you find a camp like Birch Creek? Even though there are many good camps out there for young musicians, I think Birch Creek is the only one that really shows what being a musician is. It's tough in the music business and Birch Creek prepares you for what it can be like in the real world.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I learned, how important that experience at Birch Creek did for me. All I can say is that I will never be the same musician again.

Again, I am grateful to you and your program for the scholarship. I hope you know how wonderful it is to know that the career path I chose is the right one.

Thank you for your support of the arts and especially Birch Creek.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Laura E. Israelsen
Birch Creek Music Center

Dear Katherine,

On behalf of the students at Birch Creek, we send sincere
thanks to you and your foundation for providing scholarships to eight of our students this year. Please relay our gratitude to the other members of your Board.

Our 2005 grant summary is enclosed along with an update on the grant recipients and some photographs. New information from the preliminary report is listed in bold.

Plans are underway for our 31st season in 2006 and as always, we would again be honored to be considered by your Foundation for scholarship funding.

Sincerest thanks from all of us at Birch Creek.

Kaye M. Wagner
Executive Director

I would like to take this time to thank you for the generous contribution you gave to me in order to attend Birch Creek. I paid for the entire camp without help from my parents, so without your help I would not have been able to afford the cost. Birch Creek proved to be an extremely positive experience and through it I learned a lot, made many new friends, and got a better perspective on the life of a professional percussionist.

This was my first year attending Birch Creek or any music camp, so I wasn't sure just what to expect. Although I was nervous when I first arrived, I was quickly welcomed by the counselors and returning students, who made me feel right at home. As I observed the first schedule posting I realized just how intense this camp was and felt slightly overwhelmed, but with the help of all the faculty and students I made it through the first few days and adjusted to the intense schedule. Constantly being surrounded by amazing musicians really helped to push my drive to become a better musician. Even though we were in rehearsals for most of the day I found myself filling up my free time with practice time. I have never made so much progress as a musician in such a little time. I even had opportunities to sit down one on one with the faculty and talk about subjects such as composition and the process of becoming a music major in college.

I feel that it is impossible to describe to you just how beneficial this experience was to me and just how much your kindness matters, because without your donation I would have lost an amazing experience. Because of your kindness and generosity Birch Creek proved to have another successful year, and I am much more prepared for my future in college. Thank you once more for making this impact on my life.

Sincerely,
Lucas Elenitsky

This summer, I was privileged to attend Birch Creek Music Center for the first time, and without being awarded the Wright Foundation Scholarship, this experience would not have been possible.

During the two week jazz session, I studied alto saxophone under Anton Denner and performed with the Studio Band. I learned more than I could have imagined and grew a great deal as a musician. It has also given me a greater desire to pursue music as a career after I leave high school. Not only has this experience expanded my musical horizons, it has led me to meet wonderful people and create lasting friendships.

I hope you realize what your generosity means to me, and all the students at Birch Creek. It has truly made a difference in all of our lives, thank you.

Sincerely,
Maggie Schopp

I am currently a junior at Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. I play percussion in the Glenbard South Symphonic Band as first chair, and I am the principal timpanist in the Glenbard South Orchestra. I am also Head of the Marching Band Drum line and the Pep Band, playing the snare drum. I play the vibraphone in the school Jazz Band.

I started playing piano in the second grade, and have continued to study for the past 9 years under the guidance of a private piano teacher. I also received the Glen Crest Middle School Director's award for Band. Both last year and this year I was selected to play in the Suburban Prairie Conference Honor Band. At the end of my sophomore year, I made the Honors Recital at my school.

I started giving private lessons in February of 2005 and I am loving the experience! Education is very important to me. I have maintained a straight A average throughout Middle school and during my Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years at Glenbard South. I am planning to pursue my music education through college, and am considering a career in musical performance.

Sincerely,
Molly Rod

I started playing music about eight years ago. I took piano lessons for about two years and seven years ago, I picked up the saxophone. I began taking private lessons with Linda Van Dyke and learned all the basics and fundamentals of the saxophone, both classical and jazz. I began learning jazz theory four and a half years ago focusing mostly on blues.Currently, I am taking lessons with Linda Van Dyke and at Caltera School of Music, where I learn advanced jazz theory and develop tone and technical skill.

I also give volunteer sax lessons with PING!. Providing Instruments for the Next Generation, or PING!, is a non-profit organization in Oak. Park that donates instruments to low income families with students in 6th through 8th grade. Besides improving technical skill on the instrument, PING! allows students to create personal relationships with older musicians and encourage them continue playing in high school. My experience with PING! has been personally rewarding as I see my student become more excited to play and more interested in the music at each lesson.

My musical goals are diverse, but all center around becoming a competent musician. My experience at Birch Creek last summer proved to me that music was truly one of my greatest interests and I enjoy being around an incredibly strong faculty and peers who have the same goals as myself.”.

Sincerely,
Kevin Swanson
